KATHMANDU, July 16: Teaching at five campuses under Tribhuvan University’s Institute of Engineering has been suspended for a week as faculty members protest against what they claim is interference in academic, financial, and administrative autonomy.

The protest began on July 3, with teachers fully halting classes from July 9 at Pulchowk, Thapathali, Eastern, Western, and Chitwan campuses. Faculty members have demanded that the university revoke recent decisions curtailing the institute's decentralized authority and issue a formal letter from the Executive Council reaffirming decentralization.

The faculty union has also submitted mass resignations and vowed to continue their protest until their demands are addressed. Meanwhile, the TU central office is preparing to form a committee to resolve the issue, citing the negative impact on students’ education.
