According to the traffic spokesperson Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Pawan Giri, special teams would be deployed along 65 busy roads of the Kathmandu Valley from Saturday morning to Sunday morning.[break]
Similarly, 16 mobile teams will be on duty from Saturday morning. The mobile teams would be responsible for emergency response if a road accident occurs at any place of the Valley. The teams have been authorized to conduct surprise check against drink-driving at any place.
Traffic spokesperson DSP Giri said that traffic police used to be deployed in less numbers on the New Year in the past, which resulted in over speeding, drink driving and other traffic rule violations leading to more accidents. Similarly, the pedestrians also walk carelessly when they do not see traffic police around.
The MTPD is also deploying the traffic police in plainclothes to take action against those violating peace and order. The traffic police can seize vehicles found violating traffic rules and fine the owners on the spot.
