UML leader, govt employee injured in clash

LALITPUR, April 5: Vice-president of the CPN-UML Khotang-Kathmandu Liaison Forum, Arjun Bhakta Rai, has been injured in a clash with police.

The clash occurred in course of the sit-in staged at the Department of Roads here under the leadership of the UML Khotang, lawmaker from Khotang and party central member, Bishal Bhattarai, said.


The Forum was staging the sit-in to exert pressure to the Department for starting the construction works of the Phoksingtar-Sunkosi Bridge. The bridge construction has not yet been initiated although the contract for this was reached nearly one and half years ago.

Rai sustained minor injuries when police tried to stop the demonstrators after they tried to manhandle the Department employees, the Metropolitan Police Range Spokesman, Kisan Singh Thapa, said.

He added that Jaya Ram Thapa, an employee at the Department, was injured in the attack by the demonstrators. RSS
