At least 21 killed in Darjeeling landslides

ILAM, July 1: At least 21 people were killed, while 15 others are missing in series of landslides followed by incessant rainfall in the Indian city of Darjeeling on Tuesday night.

Among those dead and missing, many are Nepali speaking Indian nationals.


19 were buried to death in Mirik bordering Ilam district of Nepal and two in Kalimpong.

Indian media have reported that life has been hit hard due to landslides in Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Kharsang, Mirik and Sikkim.
 
Landslides were reported in 25 places and security personnel have been mobilized for search and rescue.

The mudslide has also obstructed the historical rail service of the city.

“Many people have sustained injuries, government hospital in Mirik has been fully occupied with the injured,” Indian media reported.
