Rains have badly affected normal life in Biratnagar, too. With many roads in the only sub-metropolitan city of the region flooded, the locals are finding it difficult to commute to their destinations.
Similarly, flood has swept away a bridge in Biratnagar-7. As the swollen Bakaraha River eroded land in ward number 6 and 7 of Govindapur VDC of Morang, locals fear being rendered homeless.
Although a joint technical team of the District Development Office of Morang and the district office of Department of Water-Induced Disaster Prevention has already started work to contain the Bakaraha River, land erosion continues in Govindapur.
Incessant rains have led to rise in the water level of many other local rivers in Morang like Cheka and Lohandra, forcing the locals to move to safer places.
According to Damak-based Republica correspondent Ramesh Chhetri, hundreds of houses have been inundated in Jhapa.
Floods have washed away a diversion made to facilitate construction of a bridge over Geuriya River in Lakhanpur VDC of Jhapa, leaving hundreds of passengers stranded along the East-West highway. Vehicles started to ply again along the highway only when the Road Division Office, Damak repaired the diversion Tuesday afternoon.
Houses in ward numbers 1, 10 and 12 of Damak municipality have also been flooded. Krishna Khanal, a resident of Damak-12, said, “It is difficult for us to save our food grains and clothes.”
