KATHMANDU, May 23: Chairman of Interim Election Council Khil Raj Regmi has said that the government is anxious to announce the date of fresh election in consensus with all political parties.

While receiving a memorandum from the Reporters´ Club Nepal at his office on Thursday, Chairman Regmi said efforts are under way to forge consensus among all political parties on election-related laws. “The government is desperate to announce date of fresh election as early as possible,” said Regmi. “The government will immediately announce election date once there is agreement among parties on legal process.” [break]

Stating that the election is the only alternative to resolve the current political crisis seen in the country, Regmi said, “The government has a wish to hold an election that is inclusive and has the highest participation ever.” He also appealed to all the political parties and the people to help the government in holding the election at the earliest.

“The government is determined to conduct the Constituent Assembly election within the stipulated time. The country can move ahead on the right track after ending the political transition only if there is an election,” he further said.

Chairman Regmi also said that he would not compromise with anyone on free and fair election. He mentioned that the government was holding interaction with various political parties to learn their views on various contentious issues relating to the elections.
