KATHMANDU, Feb 10: Nepali Congress leader Narahari Acharya who has been admitted to the National Institute of Neurological and Allied Science, commonly known as Neuro Hospital after suffering a stroke Tuesday is neurologically more alert, according to doctors involved in his treatment.

A health bulletin issued by the hospital Wednesday said his blood pressure and pulse were stable overnight."Neurologically he is more alert, although he has persistent right side weakness and speech deficit," reads the bulletin. A CT-scan of the head conducted by the hospital Tuesday evening showed that the clot size was satisfactory and there was no increase in hydrocephalus (water logging).

Acharya, who has been living with hypertension for 25 years and was under regular medication, was taken to hospital after he lost consciousness upon learning about the death of party president Sushil Koirala.

Acharya is being treated at the intensive care unit (ICU).

The hospital has planned to start oral feeding, aggressive physiotherapy and a repeat CT-scan to monitor the size of blood clot and hydrocephalus.

The hospital informed that leader Acharya is being treated by a team of neurosurgeons, neurologists, neurointensivists, radiologists, critical care nurses and physiotherapists led by Dr Upendra Devkota.
