KATHMANDU, Dec 24: The Department of Passports (DoP) has announced that passports will now be issued within two working days. The DoP said that a total of 396,000 passport booklets have already been printed and supplied, enabling immediate issuance to applicants in need.

According to the DoP, a decision had earlier been made to procure 700,000 passport booklets for the interim period. With the supply now in place, passport services have resumed at full capacity, it said.

The DoP is currently personalizing passports at full scale and distributing them to applicants who applied through district and area administration offices, as well as Nepali diplomatic missions abroad.

Applicants who submitted their applications by December 1 will receive their new passports by December 30, while those who applied afterward will receive them on a rolling basis, the department said. The availability of passport booklets for the interim period has made the distribution process smoother, it added.
