SPORTS BRIFS: Double delight for Oasis

KATHMANDU: Oasis won its matches in both boys" and girls" sections on Saturday in the First Inter-school Home and Away Basketball Tournament organized by Nepa Sports Group. Oasis defeated Everest School, Bhaktapur 46-20 on its home court in Lalitpur. Bishwa Rai scored 14 points for the winning side. In the girls" section also, Oasis beat Everest 14-12. In the second match of girls" section on Saturday, Skylark edged past Excelsior 18-8. However, Excelsior pulled off a 40-37 victory over Skylark in the boys" section as Bikki Gurung scored 19 points for the winning team.



Nepal claims 6 golds in karate

KATHMANDU : Nepal became the champion of the Second Indo-Nepal Karate Championship that concluded in Kathmandu on Saturday. Nepal clinched 6 gold, 12 silver and 9 bronze medals in the championship organized by Nepal Wado-ryu Karate-do Association. India finished second with 3 gold, 6 silver and 24 bronze medals while Myanmar claimed 1 gold and 4 bronze medals. Mohan Tamang and Sushila Maharjan of Nepal were adjudged the best players of the tournament in the men"s and women"s section respectively.



Gautam wins chess tourney

KATHMANDU: Soviet Gautam of Reliance International School clinched the title of Second Pioneer Inter-school Chess Tournament on Saturday. Gautam defeated Bhuwan Dahal of host Pioneer International School, Kapan in the last round to accumulate five points and win the title. Though Sandesh Katuwal of the host garnered five points in the tournament, he remained behind Gautam in progressive points. With the win, Gautam sealed the running shield for his school. Dahal finished third with four points.
