VP's media secy convicted

KATHMANDU, Jan 3: The Special Court (SC) on Monday convicted Rajesh Jha ´Ahiraj´, editor and publisher of Madhesvani Weekly, of treason. The court slapped Rs 500 as fine on him.



Justices Gauri Bahadur Karki, Om Prakash Mishra and Kedar Prasad Chalise in their verdict said Jha worked against the nation by publishing an advertisement for recruitment of combatants in the army wing of Rajan Mukti-led Janatantrik Tarai Mukti Morcha, a Tarai-based underground outfit.[break]



Jha who is also media secretary of the vice-president (VP) had published an advertisement in Madhesvani Weekly four months ago inviting applications for ´nine different vacant posts´ in the underground outfit´s army.



The Special Court said publication of the advertisement threatened national integrity.
