KATHMANDU, March 30: CPN-UML Secretary Mahesh Basnet said the government is trying to weaken the movement against the arrest of party Chair KP Sharma Oli by arresting him.
Clarifying that claims of him being “on the run” with his phone turned off are completely false, Basnet said such rumors are being spread to mislead public opinion. He also warned that these activities could backfire on those responsible.

In a statement shared on social media, Basnet claimed that three years ago, a “fake person” was used to file a false complaint against him. He said the complaint was proven fraudulent by the police, and the related writ petition at the Patan High Court was dismissed.
According to Basnet, a supplementary complaint has now been filed regarding the same matter, and the case is currently under judicial consideration.
He alleged that the authorities are planning to use the same person to file a “third fake complaint” to justify his arrest and that a media trial is being conducted.
Basnet further accused the government led by Balendra Shah and Home Minister Sudan Gurung of engaging in unlawful and authoritarian practices in orchestrating this act.
