KATHMANDU, July 8: The Meteorological Forecasting Division (MFD) has forecast heavy rainfall in parts of several provinces today as monsoon conditions remain active across the country.
According to the division, the monsoon trough lies south of its average position over eastern Nepal and near its normal position over the western region. Monsoon winds are currently influencing weather across the country.
At present, the weather is generally cloudy nationwide, with light to moderate rainfall occurring at a few places in Koshi Province, Bagmati Province, Lumbini Province and Karnali Province, and at one or two places in Gandaki Province and Sudurpashchim Province.
Heavy rainfall forecast in Bagmati, several provinces
This afternoon, the weather is expected to remain generally cloudy across the country. Light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is likely at some places in the hilly and Tarai regions of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini and Sudurpashchim provinces, at a few places in
Madhesh Province, and in the hilly areas of Karnali Province.
There is also a possibility of snowfall in some high Himalayan areas. Heavy rainfall is likely at one or two places in the hilly regions, while strong winds may affect parts of the Tarai in Madhesh, Lumbini and Sudurpashchim provinces, the MFD reported.
Tonight, skies are expected to remain mostly cloudy. Light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning is likely at many places in Madhesh Province and the hilly and Tarai areas of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces. Similar conditions are expected at a few places in the hilly areas of Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces, as well as the Tarai of Lumbini and Sudurpashchim.
The division has also forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places in Madhesh Province and the hilly and Tarai regions of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces tonight.
The division has urged the public to remain alert, particularly in areas at risk of heavy rainfall, and to stay updated with its latest weather advisories.
