KATHMANDU, June 28: Rajendra Lingden, chair of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party, RPP, has said the party's general convention will be held in Kathmandu on December 12, 13 and 14 as scheduled, ruling out any possibility of a postponement.
Addressing a gathering of party leaders and cadres from Kathmandu District, Lingden said nothing would prevent the convention from taking place on the announced dates.
RPP to stay neutral in Koshi province: Chairman Lingden
"We have decided to hold the RPP general convention in Kathmandu on December 11, 12, and 13. Nothing will stop us from moving ahead with it, and there is no possibility of changing the dates," he said.
He also urged party leaders and members to actively participate in local-level conventions as part of the preparations for the national convention.
Referring to leaders who have left the party, Lingden said he did not wish to comment extensively on their departure, adding that he did not see the current situation as unusual.
He said he had witnessed every phase of the party's ups and downs and believed the present challenges should not discourage the organization.
Lingden also claimed that the RPP was facing coordinated efforts by domestic and foreign forces aimed at weakening or even eliminating the party.
"I have been part of every rise and fall of this party. I consider my current life a bonus after surviving near death. So I do not see the party's present situation as something to fear," he said.
He argued that history has never regarded those who abandon political battles as courageous and claimed that, at a time when the RPP was facing difficulties, various domestic and foreign forces were trying to isolate and dismantle what he described as a nationalist political force.
Lingden said he had no comment on those who chose to leave the party or withdraw from politics while the RPP was under pressure.
