Tension at Bir Hospital, heavy security deployed

KATHMANDU, July 10: Tension flared at Bir Hospital on Friday following the death of Ganesh Nepali, who had set himself on fire outside the Department of Passports in Tripureshwor a day earlier.



A large number of police personnel were deployed at the hospital to maintain security and manage the situation.

Nepali, a resident of Mugu, had attempted self-immolation outside the Department of Passports on Thursday by setting himself on fire. He had been admitted to Bir Hospital in critical condition and was undergoing treatment on ventilator support.


He died during treatment on Friday morning.


Following his death, demands for an impartial investigation have been raised both inside and outside Parliament. A large number of his relatives and members of the public gathered at the hospital premises, prompting authorities to deploy additional security personnel.
