Acting CEC Bhandari says about 65 percent voter turnout expected this election

KATHMANDU, March 5: Acting Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Ram Prasad Bhandari said voting is continuing peacefully and enthusiastically across the country.



Speaking to journalists after casting his vote, he said voters’ participation has been encouraging in all 77 districts.

“Voting started in an orderly and enthusiastic manner from 7:00 AM. Voter turnout and security arrangements are very good. Voting can be completed within one to two minutes after receiving the ballot paper,” he said.


He urged all stakeholders, voters, political parties, and candidates to support peaceful and enthusiastic voting. He also said ballot boxes will be collected immediately after polling ends, followed by vote counting.


He further stated that the Election Commission is making efforts to publish the results of the direct elections within 24 hours after the counting begins. Based on youth participation in voting, the Election Commission has estimated that more than 65 percent voter turnout is likely.
