KATHMANDU, Feb 26: The Election Commission (EC) has banned the operation of public and private vehicles from 12 midnight on March 4 until voting is completed on March 5 to ensure tight election security.

Only emergency, diplomatic, and authorized vehicles — such as ambulances, fire engines, hearse vehicles, blood transport services, and utility repair vehicles — will be allowed to operate.

The EC has also asked the Home Ministry to enforce a nationwide ban on the sale and consumption of alcohol from seven days before voting until the final election results are announced.

Authorities have directed district officials and security agencies to strictly enforce the election code of conduct. International and domestic flights will continue as usual, but passengers must use airline-arranged or personal vehicles while traveling to and from airports.

The EC has also instructed voters to carry a voter ID, citizenship certificate, passport, national ID, land ownership certificate, or driving license when going to polling stations.

Border checkpoints will be closed 72 hours before voting to maintain security and peace during the election period.
