KATHMANDU, May 30: The government plans to increase the supply of chemical fertilizers to 600,000 metric tons.
Presenting the budget for the upcoming fiscal year at the joint session of the Federal Parliament on Thursday, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel said the government will spend Rs 28.82 billion on subsidies for chemical fertilizers. He added that the Investment Board will prepare to establish a chemical fertilizer factory.

To preserve soil quality and enhance productivity, the government has allocated Rs 400 million to implement the Organic Agriculture Promotion Program, Paudel said. It will also promote agricultural production on fallow arable land along the Pushpalal (Mid-Hill) Highway and the Madan Bhandari Highway. The budget allocates funds to expand the cultivation of cash crops, livestock farming, high-value fruits, non-timber forest products, grasses, and agroforestry systems in these areas.
