HUMLA, Nov 14: Residents of Simkot, the district headquarters of Humla, along with Kharpunath and Simkot Rural Municipalities, have been left in the dark since Sunday as electricity supply remains suspended.
Jitendra Shah, chief of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), said the outage is due to urgent repairs needed for structures including the powerhouse in Simkot-4.

“The intake and overflow of the powerhouse require immediate maintenance,” Shah explained. “Repairs are ongoing, and we expect full power to be restored by Sunday. Incomplete cement plastering has delayed the resumption of service.”
The blackout has left nearly 2,500 residents across the two municipalities without electricity for almost a week. The NEA has issued an apology for the disruption. The outage has also stalled work in government and non-government offices in Simkot. Services that require recommendations through ward offices have been halted, and residents are facing significant difficulties.
With most ward offices lacking solar backup, all electricity-dependent operations remain suspended, highlighting the region’s vulnerability during prolonged power interruptions.
