KATHMANDU, July 8: Lawmakers have registered amendment proposals to the Nepal Rastra Bank (Third Amendment) Bill, 2026, seeking to make the appointment of at least one woman to the central bank's Board of Directors mandatory and to require one deputy governor to be recruited from outside the bank.
A total of 76 amendment proposals have been registered on the bill, which is currently under consideration in the House of Representatives.
Revised interest rate corridor system introduced
Lawmakers Pushparaj Kandel and Lima Adhikari have proposed that at least one of the five board directors be a woman. Another amendment, registered by lawmaker Parshuram Khapung, proposes reducing the number of directors from five to four.
Several lawmakers have also proposed increasing the number of deputy governors from the current two to three. Under the proposal, one of the three deputy governors would have to be appointed from outside the Nepal Rastra Bank rather than from within its existing service.
The proposal has been registered by lawmakers Khushbu Oli, Sushil Khadka, Kamal Subedi, Gopal Sharma, Guru Prasad Baral, Ganesh Parajuli and Ramesh Kumar Malla.
The proposed amendments will be taken up during parliamentary deliberations on the bill.
