Navaratri begins, Trishuli temple opens

Ghatasthapana rituals will be performed today in accordance with religious scriptures, and the temple will remain open until Vijaya Dashami. Upendra Pathak, chief priest of the Jaleshwarnath Mahadev Temple, said it opens for 10 days during autumn Navaratri.

KATHMANDU, Oct 11: The Trishuli Devi Temple in Jaleshwar has opened to the public with the start of autumn Navaratri. Traditionally, the temple opens only during the autumn and spring Navaratri festivals.



Ghatasthapana rituals will be performed today in accordance with religious scriptures, and the temple will remain open until Vijaya Dashami. Upendra Pathak, chief priest of the Jaleshwarnath Mahadev Temple, said it opens for 10 days during autumn Navaratri. During spring Navaratri, observed in the bright fortnight of Chaitra, it opens from the first day until midnight on the ninth day.

Local belief holds that the shrine of Trishuli Devi was established alongside the Jaleshwarnath Shiva lingam. Priests from the Jaleshwarnath Mahadev Temple perform daily worship at the Trishuli Devi shrine throughout Navaratri.


Devotees visit from Mahottari and other parts of the Mithila region, including Dhanusha, Sarlahi and Siraha, as well as Sitamarhi, Madhubani, Sheohar and Jhanjharpur in neighboring India.
