Reports show Gen-Z protests hit Pokhara's tourism hard

GANDAKI, Oct 9: The Pokhara Tourism Council has presented the preliminary report about the damages suffered by Pokhara's tourism sector during the Gen-Z protests staged on September 8 and 9.  



A team led by Council's Chair Taranath Pahari submitted the initial report to the Tourism Minister of Gandaki Province, Mitralal Basyal. The report states that 10 hotels and business firms suffered serious losses in Pokhara.


It is mentioned that Hotel Sarovar lost almost Rs 1 billion, while Bagaincha Resort witnessed damages of around Rs 400 million.   According to the report, Hotel Goodwill lost property worth Rs 200 million, Rs 195 million of Pokhara Events Centre, Rs 80 million of Anshuberma Complex, Rs 30 million of Bar Pipal Resort, while Hotel Adam Pvt Ltd lost Rs 10 million.

Likewise, Council shared that properties of Hotel Landmark, Mantra Thakali, and Community Service Centre based in Baidam and others were damaged. 


The Council has expressed concerns about the damage inflicted upon the tourism industry just ahead of the year's peak season for tourism and has urged the stakeholders to protect the businesses.  


The Council has urged the government to revitalize the tourism business by providing lifesaving loans at the earliest possible time in the present context.


Likewise, the issues should be resolved for the long term and the victim business houses should be provided with the rightful compensation, the Council has urged.
