KATHMANDU, March 7: Riding a strong wave in the House of Representatives elections, the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has secured an impressive set of victories across the country. RSP candidates defeated prominent leaders of traditional political parties by wide margins in several constituencies, including most areas of Kathmandu, as well as in Kaski, Morang, and Dhanusha.
From Dhanusha-3, RSP candidate Manish Jha was elected with 43,142 votes, defeating Nepali Congress (NC)’s influential leader Bimalendra Nidhi by a margin of more than 27,000 votes. Similarly, from Kaski-3, Bina Gurung secured victory with 37,750 votes, defeating NC candidate Manoj Gurung.

The RSP won in most of the 10 constituencies in the capital. In Kathmandu-10, Pradeep Bista secured victory with 37,469 votes; in Kathmandu-5, Sasmit Pokharel won with 30,737 votes; in Kathmandu-4, Pukar Bam secured 29,142 votes; in Kathmandu-7, Ganesh Parajuli won with 27,805 votes; in Kathmandu-6, Shisir Khanal secured 27,711 votes; and in Kathmandu-8, Biraj Bhakta Shrestha won with 24,592 votes. From Kathmandu-1, Ranju Neupane was elected with 15,455 votes.
In Kathmandu-3, one of the most closely watched contests, RSP candidate Rajunath Pandey secured victory with 18,757 votes. He defeated Kulman Ghising, chairman of the Ujyalo Nepal Party, who received 11,171 votes.
Similarly, Santosh Rajbanshi won from Morang-4 with 36,859 votes, while Uttam Prasad Poudel was elected from Kaski-2 with 31,911 votes. Poudel defeated CPN-UML candidate Rashmi Acharya by a margin of more than 24,000 votes.
