KATHMANDU, Sept 22: CPN-UML General Secretary Shankar Pokharel has said attempts were made to create a rift between party Chairman KP Sharma Oli and him.
Pokharel made the remarks while addressing the second day of the party’s ongoing third Central Committee meeting in Lalitpur. He said suggestions concerning party reorganization and “course correction” had been misinterpreted.
“Chairman seems to have understood it as though I was trying to remove him. Based on the suggestions submitted to the task force, we said everyone now needs to move toward course correction. Attempts were made to create a rift between him and me and widen the distance,” he said.
Dialogue, Not Discord, Should Guide HoR Election
According to a leader attending the meeting, Pokharel said efforts to create differences between Oli and him had been portrayed in a way that did not reflect reality.
“There is no distance between you and me,” the leader quoted Pokharel as saying. “There are problems within the party. We need to realize them first, and only then can they be resolved.”
Chairman Oli himself is presiding over the UML Central Committee meeting. At the beginning of the meeting, he allowed office-bearers to present their views. Although each office-bearer was allotted 15 minutes, only Vice Chairman Bishnu Paudel and General Secretary Pokharel have spoken so far.
Central Committee members are currently presenting their views in alphabetical order. Each member has been allotted three minutes to speak.
