The case dates back to June 2024, when a minor girl rescued by a team from Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) alleged that she had been subjected to abuse.

A case file prepared at the District Government Attorney’s Office, Kathmandu, with a recommendation not to prosecute Sharma, had reached the Office of the Attorney General via the High Government Attorney’s Office.

During the rescue, a team comprising KMC, ward representatives, and Nepal Police reached the site and prepared an official report.

Then KMC and current Prime Minister Balendra Shah had also spoken out on social media, writing: “Sorry, child, the government has decided not to file a case against your abusers. Do not panic. Your time will come.”

The minor, who had been working at Sharma’s house for the past six years, had alleged that she was physically assaulted.
