Attack on BFIs worrying: Nepal Bankers’ Association

KATHMANDU, Dec 30: Chairman of Nepal Bankers' Association, Santosh Koirala, has said it is worrying to see the attacks on financial and banking institutes for the political interests.



During a programme organized by the Society of Economic Journalists, Nepal (SEJON) on 'banking sector and way forward' in Kathmandu on Monday, Koirala viewed, financial and banking sector as facing challenges after the intimidation of bank employees over loan issues. "The issues of loan giving and taking are clearly mentioned in the law, but the bank employees are attacked over it," he reminded.

He complained that some persons were falsely assuring loan exemption, which is quite misleading. "The banking sector is more transparent than other sectors. If the banking sector faces problems, it also creates ripple effects" he argued.


According to him, FBIs has created jobs for over 50,000 persons. He shared that although there was adequate liquidity in the banking sector, demand was declining.


Noted economist Dr Rewat Bahadur Karki viewed there was more regulation by Nepal Rastra Bank. NRB's regulation should be liberal, according to him.
