KATHMANDU, June 28: Chairman of CPN (Maoist Center) Pushpa Kamal Dahal on Tuesday said that he had postponed his Australia visit due to political circumstances and hectic party work and not because of the fear of being arrested in Australia.

Dahal said so after Australian Ambassador to Nepal Glen White asked him the reason for postponing the visit during a meeting between the two at Dahal's residence in Lazimpat today, according to Dahal’s Personal Secretariat.

Ambassador White told Dahal that he is in constant touch with the Australian government, police and Attorney General and there was no problem apropos the visit.

Also a former prime minister, Dahal had deferred the down under visit in the eleventh hour. Media reports had claimed that Dahal had postponed the visit fearing arrest as a complaint had been filed against him.

During the meeting, Dahal told the envoy that he knows that media reports are misleading. He further said that he will visit Australia at an appropriate time.

According to Dahal’s Personal Secretariat, social and political issues of the country were also discussed during the meeting. Dahal tried to assure the envoy that political parties are attempting to forge an agreement with dissenting groups, implement the constitution and speed up the reconstruction process.
