China to provide Nepal Army two well-equipped mobile hospitals

KATHMANDU, July 18:Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) Gaurav Sumsher Rana is scheduled to sign a protocol related to Chinese assistance on two mobile hospitals during his weeklong visit to China starting Friday.



The mobile hospitals will be useful especially in disaster-prone areas. At the press conference organized at the Directorate of Public Relations of NA, NA spokesman Brig Gen Suresh Sharma said that the mobile hospitals will be worth Rs 917 million. He also informed that the two hospitals, which will include beds with emergency department, critical care holding area, fully digital X-ray unit, a small lab, a blood bank and operating rooms, could accommodate between 26 and 50 patients at a time. Similarly the hospitals will also contain surgical processing unit with autoclave, surgical equipment disposal unit, a central medical supply with stores and an administrative with command control unit.



"The doctors and other staff of the hospitals will be deployed on the basis of need and structure of the hospital mobilized area," he said.



Heavy trucks with power generators will reach the spots where there is demand of medical treatment and provide service, but our prime focus will be disaster areas, added.



COAS Rana will leave for China leading a five- member team at the official invitation of Fang Fenghui, PLA Chief China. According to DPR, CoAS Rana will hold talks with PLA Chief Fang, Deputy Chairman of Central Military Commission Air Chief Marshal Xu Qiliang, General Fang, Chief of the General Staff of PLA and Senior officers of Shaanxi Military Region, Nanjing Military Region.



He will also visit the First Hospital Affiliated to Fourth Military Medical University, Command and Staff College, Nanjing Army Command College/Yunnan Military Region. On the occasion CoAS Rana will sign agreements on mobile hospitals, spokesperson Sharma said. According to the DPR, the recent assistance is the remaining portion of the 100 million RMB that China had pleged to provide Nepal during a 2011 visit to China by the then army chief Chhatra Man Singh Gurung, according to DPR.



Meanwhile, the cabinet has approved the upcoming UK visit by CoAS Rana. At the invitation of British Chief of General Staff, Peter Anthony Wall, Rana is scheduled to visit the UK on September 6.
