KATHMANDU, Nov 9: Pro-monarch leader Durga Prasai, who has been preparing for an anti-establishment movement, has called for unity against the Kathmandu Metropolitan City’s move to remove squatter settlement.
Visiting a squatter settlement today at Manohara river banks in Bhaktapur side, Prasai vowed that such an attempt would not be allowed to succeed. KMC’s one-week ultimatum to vacate public land ended on Friday as the city police began to use dozers in the squatter settlements.

Addressing a corner meeting at the Manohara squatter area, he warned that he would “lock horn” with Kathmandu Mayor Balen Shah and Metropolitan Police Chief Raju Pandey.
Speaking earlier at a program held at a public school premise in Madhyapur Thimi-1, Bhaktapur, Prasai said that the injustices against squatters were intolerable. He also met with locals and representatives of the Squatter Settlement Residence Committee and expressed solidarity with them. He urged the people living in squatter settlements to stand up for themselves for the fight against brutal force.
