KATHMANDU, April 25: Authorities are observing Earthquake Memorial Day to raise awareness about building safe infrastructure. Officials have organized a special event at the Dharahara complex in Sundhara, Kathmandu. Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli will attend the program as the chief guest. The day carries the message: "Let's build safe infrastructure and stay protected from earthquakes."
Today, April 25 (Baisakh 12), marks exactly ten years since the devastating earthquake of April 25, 2015 (Baisakh 12, 2072 BS), which struck Barpak, Gorkha as its epicenter.

That 7.6 magnitude earthquake claimed 8,979 lives and injured 22,309 people. To honor the memory of that tragic event, organizers have planned various commemorative programs today.
In recent days, minor tremors have frequently rattled western Nepal. On November 3, 2023, a 6.4 magnitude earthquake struck Barekot in Jajarkot. Since then, multiple earthquakes have continued to jolt different parts of the district.
The National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Center reported that a 4.2 magnitude earthquake struck at 7:34 PM on Thursday.
The earthquake hit with its epicenter in Ranma Maikot, Eastern Rukum. It is the latest in a series of tremors that have continued to shake western Nepal. A mild earthquake struck Eastern Rukum just a day before the country observes Earthquake Memorial Day.
