KATHMANDU, April 8: The recent 17 percent increase in fares for passenger vehicles announced by the government will not apply to electric vehicles, the Department of Transport Management (DoTM) has clarified.
The fare adjustment, announced on Wednesday, was based on changes in fuel prices and analyzed through 13 indicators. The DoTM confirmed that the new rates are applicable only to conventional fuel-based vehicles.
Import of electric vehicles increased by 600 percent last year
Currently, the hike affects passenger and freight vehicles traveling from one province to another or across multiple provinces. Short-distance travel within a city or within a province remains regulated by provincial governments, which set their own fare rates.
