KATHMANDU, Nov 17: Minister for Finance Rameshore Khanal has stated that a separate Department of Revenue Investigation(DoRI) is unnecessary.
Speaking at a program organized by the Nepal Chamber of Commerce in Kathmandu on Sunday, he cited examples from countries like the United States, arguing that if revenue-related issues arise, the existing relevant department can handle them.

"A Department of Revenue Investigation or a similar body is not needed. When we build a system based on trust, such separate bodies become unnecessary," Minister Khanal said. "There will always be some malpractice in the government, private sector, or community. The responsible body for each sector should handle such cases. In some countries, even customs matters are managed within the same department."
Referring to the short period left for his government—about three and a half months—he said he is focused on developing systems to improve the economy. He added that he will no longer be a minister after the election scheduled for March and will concentrate on necessary reforms until then.
