KATHMANDU, March 11: Five vehicles collided along the East-West Highway at Daunne in Nawalparasi, injuring eight people.
The accident took place near Ghiyukhola in Binayi Triveni Rural Municipality 2 on Tuesday night. Police said a container truck tried to overtake on a one-way stretch of the road, which led to the crash involving several vehicles.
Traffic to be suspended in Daunne area
Superintendent of Police Yubaraj Khadka of the District Police Office said the collision occurred when the container attempted to pass other vehicles in a risky manner.
Among the injured are motorcycle rider Amar Karki, 30, and pillion rider Mahendra Mahatara, 25. Six passengers travelling on a bus were also hurt.
The injured have been identified as bus driver Shankar Bista, Binod Kumar Achhami, Udiram Bista, Namnuhang Rai, Darshan Pokhrel, Chandra Singh Thapa, and Yagya Prasad Bhusal.
All the injured are receiving treatment at Madhyabindu Provincial Hospital.
Police said the container driver responsible for the accident has fled the scene, and a search is underway to locate him. Efforts are also ongoing to clear the blocked section of the highway.
