KATHMANDU, April 19: A swirl of social media claims suggesting that the government plans to distribute iPhones to ministers has been firmly rejected by Minister for Communication and Information Technology Bikram Timilsina, who described the reports as misleading and unfounded.
Breaking his silence through a public statement on social media, Timilsina questioned the origins of the claim and cautioned against the growing tendency to circulate unverified information. His remarks come amid a broader climate where viral narratives—often detached from official policy—can quickly shape public perception.

“Who imagined and created this misleading story that the government is giving iPhones to every minister?” he wrote, urging citizens to scrutinise the credibility of sources before amplifying such claims.
The minister sought to reframe the narrative, stressing that the government’s priorities remain anchored in public welfare and responsible use of state resources. At a time when economic pressures and public accountability dominate discourse, he underscored that every rupee collected from taxpayers carries weight.
“This government is working every moment to create a better future for citizens, not to misuse taxpayers’ money,” he said, adding that the administration is fully aware of the value of public contributions.
