1. Decreases Stress

Dogs have a calming effect on humans and can be good at helping us relieve stress. During stressful situations, dog owners’ heart rates and blood pressure tend to rise less and they return to normal levels faster than their non-dog owner counterparts.

2.  Protect from Heart Disease

Dogs can do more than get you exercise and boost your mood. They could extend your life and protect you from deadly diseases. Owning pets is associated with a reduced risk of heart disease, Dog owners have been found to have lower cholesterol, lower blood pressure, and experience fewer heart attacks than those who do not have pets.

3. Helps Children Develop

Children who grow up in a household with pets benefit in myriad ways, especially in their emotional development. When a child is attached to a dog or cat, they learn to express themselves in more ways and they learn to relate better. Pets are also hugely beneficial to children suffering from autism and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).

4. Stay Active

Dogs need to be exercised. They can’t be cooped up all day without having the chance to get up and run around. Having a dog encourages owners to take them for walks, play fetch, and get moving.
