KATHMANDU, Oct 16: Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal has alleged that certain elements are actively working to disrupt the upcoming House of Representatives (HoR) election.
Speaking to the media during an inspection visit to the District Coordination Committee office in Bhaktapur, Minister Aryal warned that the government will not tolerate any activities aimed at undermining the electoral process.
Questionable conduct
“There are some elements which are trying to spoil the environment of the election. The government will first seek an explanation from them. If they do not respond appropriately, the government will take necessary action,” he said.
Home Minister Aryal emphasized that the government is committed to holding the election on the scheduled date in a free and fair manner. He noted that the government is taking steps to ensure a secure environment including boosting the morale of security forces.
Aryal also called on all political and social stakeholders to engage in dialogue. “For the election to proceed smoothly, everyone needs to come to the table. The government is facilitating that process. President [Ram Chandra Paudel] has already initiated dialogue and we are continuing it from our level as well,” he stated.
His comments come amid growing criticism from political parties, who accuse the government of sidelining them in the electoral process. Addressing these concerns, Aryal reiterated that no stakeholder should take any action that could further inflame tensions.
The interim government led by Sushila Karki has called for HoR election on March 5, 2026.
