KATHMANDU, Jan 30: The headquarters of Mahottari district will not be shifted to Bardibas and Jaleshwar will remain the eastern district´s administrative center, said a Madhesi leader quoting Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal on Friday afternoon.

According to our correspondent Tilak Pokharel, an all-party delegation from Mahottari district -- except Unified Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) and Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist-Leninist) -- met the prime minister at his office at Singha Durbar Friday and asked him to reverse the decision to shift the headquarters to Bardibas.

"The prime minister assured us that the cabinet will reverse the decision in the next meeting of the cabinet on Sunday," Kedar Nath Pathak, one of the members of the delegation told myrepublica.com.
Jaleshwar is still tense after the cabinet decision to shift the headquarters from the town to Bardibas. The district administration which had imposed an indefinite curfew beginning 5 p.m. Thursday relaxed it for four hours from 4 a.m. on Friday. [break]
Our correspondent Suresh Kumar Yadav reported from neighboring town of Janakpur Thursday that the administration imposed the curfew after clashes between police and demonstrators staging street protests for the last two weeks against the government decision.
At least 12 people were injured in the clash on Thursday, one seriously. A protester, Navin Mishra, who sustained serious head injuries in the police action, has been admitted in a local hospital.
Three people, including a lawmaker from Tarai Madhes Democratic Party (TMDP), Ganesh Nepali, started a fast-unto-death on Wednesday against the government decision.
