NAC giving Rs 100 per ticket sold for reconstruction

KATHMANDU, June 8: Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) has decided to provide Rs 100 from each international ticket sold for a year starting June 1 for reconstruction of cultural heritage sites destroyed by the earthquake.

Ram Hari Sharma, spokesperson of NAC, told Republica that passengers traveling to Nepal through the national flag carrier will be helping to rebuild damaged historical monuments. "We have expected to collect around Rs 50 million in a year provided that all our four aircraft operate smoothly," added Sharma.

The amount thus collected will be handed over to the government for reconstruction of cultural heritage sites.NAC has also been helping to bring relief material collected by Nepali embassies from different countries free of cost. Cost to ferry such relief material would have been around Rs 11.8 million, according to a statement issued by NAC.

The national flag carrier flew in relief material from Thailand, Hong Kong, Qatar, India and Germany, among others.

"NAC staff members worked round the clock to provide ground handling to 290 relief flights carried out after the earthquake of April 25," the statement added.
