Nepalgunj, Biratnagar win respective matches

KATHMANDU, Jan 6: Region No 1 (Biratnagar) and Region No 5 (Nepalgunj) won their respective match on Thursday in the Wai Wai Women´s National Cricket Tournament.



Biratnagar defeated Region No 8 (Pokhara) by 25 runs while Nepalgunj upset Region No 6 (Baitadi) by 35 runs at the Pulchowk Cricket Ground.[break]



Biratnagar, electing to bat first, put up 114/4 in allotted 20 overs. Rashmi Sharma scored 33 runs for Biratnagar while Dipa KC (11 runs), Jyoti Pandey (13 runs), Sabina Karki (11 runs) and Captain Rubina Chhetri (unbeaten 14 runs) were the other contributors. Pokhara gave away 30 runs in extras.



In the run chase, Pokhara were restricted at 89/9 in 20 overs. Manita Gautam struck unbeaten 36 runs and tried to anchor the innings but the wickets kept on falling on the other side. Aarati Bidari (13 runs) and Pragya Pokhrel (13 runs) were the other batswoman to score in double digits. Woman of the match Rubina Chhetri took four wickets for Biratnagar.



In the next group ´A´ match of the day, Nepalgunj put up 94/2 in allotted 20 overs and restricted Baitadi at 59/7. Manisha Rawal struck 41 runs off 51 balls for Nepalgunj while Sita Rana Magar scored 36 runs. Skipper Nery Thapa added unbeaten 11 runs for Nepalgunj.



In reply, Baitadi lost wickets in regular intervals and lost the match by 35 runs. Manisha Godar Thapa (unbeaten 12 runs) was the top-scorer for the side while Nepalgunj gave away 16 runs in extras. Captain Thapa took three wickets for the winners.



With the victories, Nepalgunj and Biratngar both have two points each in the group ´A´ of the tournament. Nepalgunj has the top position in the group with superior net run rate.
