KATHMANDU, Oct 12: Representatives from Nepal Student Union, student wing of the Nepali Congress (NC) has filed a police complaint against Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) Mayor Balendra Shah (Balen) and Hami Nepal’s coordinator Sudan Gurung, for their involvement in inciting violence during the Gen Z protest of September 8 and 9.
According to NC central members, the complaint was lodged at both the Kathmandu and Lalitpur District Police Ranges. The student organization has also accused Mayor Balen and Gurung of acting as an accomplice in damaging national heritage sites through arson and vandalism and looting government and private property during the protests.

The complaint, signed by NC central members Manish Jung Thapa, Ashok Singh Bista and Vijay Shah, demanded that police arrest Balen and Sudan within 24 hours and begin a formal investigation.
Earlier, a group of youths including Sudan Gurung had filed a complaint against former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak and other senior leaders, accusing them of suppressing the Gen Z movement.
Similarly, the All Nepal National Free Students’ Union (ANNFSU), the student wing close to the CPN-UML, has also filed a separate complaint against Balen and Sudan, making similar allegations at the Kathmandu Police Range
The Gen Z youth movement, which erupted in early September, saw widespread demonstrations across the country demanding accountability of political leaders and ending corruption. The protests later turned violent, leading to extensive damage of public and private property.
