Oli’s Democracy Day message: Let us move ahead remembering three key duties

KATHMANDU, Feb 19: CPN UML Chair KP Sharma Oli has said Democracy Day marks the historic moment when the autocratic Rana regime was ended through the courage, sacrifice, and dedication of the people, ushering in the dawn of freedom and rights.

Extending his best wishes on the occasion of Democracy Day today, Oli made the remarks in a message. He paid heartfelt tribute and respect to the immortal martyrs Shukraraj Shastri, Dasharath Chand, Dharmabhakta Mathema, and Gangalal Shrestha, who sacrificed their lives for democracy.


“Today is Democracy Day, a historic day when the courage, sacrifice, and dedication of the people ended the autocratic Rana rule and ushered in the dawn of freedom and rights,” he said in the message. “Heartfelt tribute and respect to the immortal martyrs Shukraraj Shastri, Dasharath Chand, Dharmabhakta Mathema, and Gangalal Shrestha, who gave their lives for democracy.”


Oli also claimed that Democracy Day reminds every one of three important responsibilities. He listed them as protecting national sovereignty and preserving national dignity, safeguarding the Constitution while keeping democratic rights and values alive, and rebuilding national heritage, the country’s rich human culture, industry, and infrastructure damaged by widespread destruction while ensuring citizens’ security.


He urged all to move forward with awareness and inspiration drawn from this historic day.


“Today reminds us of three important duties. First, to protect national sovereignty and uphold national dignity. Second, to safeguard the Constitution and keep the democratic rights and values of the people alive. Third, to rebuild the nation’s heritage, our rich human culture, industry, and infrastructure damaged by widespread destruction while ensuring citizens’ security. Inspired by this historic day, may we all move forward with awareness,” he said, extending best wishes on Democracy Day.
