KATHMANDU, Aug 13: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has accused opposition parties of diverting attention from the country’s real issues and using parliament to create false narratives as content for social media.

Speaking on contemporary political matters after briefing the House of Representatives about his Turkmenistan visit on Wednesday, he said the government is being distracted with meaningless topics instead of facing constructive questions.

“This esteemed House, which should focus on the interests of the country and its people, is being misused to create false stories, generate confusion, and serve as a hub for social media content,” PM Oli said. “This is not for the nation’s prosperity; it is intended to mislead young people through criticism, ridicule, and provocation to incite society.”

He expressed objection to attempts to portray political retaliation against a single person in cooperative cases, while hundreds are under investigation.

“The time will hold accountable those who try to escape justice through mob-driven interference,” he said. “Following such mobs is not just surprising, it is also pitiful.”

PM Oli emphasized that the current government is based on strong parliamentary mathematics and that rumors like ‘it will fall today, it will fall tomorrow’ are being spread to weaken it.

“No matter how much instability is desired, this political equation will continue until the 2084 BS elections,” he added.

In his address, the PM highlighted government achievements over the past year. He cited examples such as the discovery of 112 billion cubic meters of gas in Dailekh with plans to begin production within a year, the start of iron mining in Dhauwadi, Nawalparasi, and the integration of roads in Simikot, Humla, as government priorities.

Earlier, he briefed Parliament on his participation in the third UN conference of landlocked developing countries held in Turkmenistan.

As the chair of the group of least developed nations, he said that he drew global attention to infrastructure deficits, high transportation costs, and climate change issues.

He also expressed confidence that bilateral meetings with the President of Turkmenistan, the Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan, and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres helped strengthen Nepal’s international relations.
