Local pro Sapkota and former Nepal No 1 Shrestha both registered the cards of one-over 71 at the par-70 course. [break]
Umesh Nagarkoti is third at two-over 72, while Sanjay Lama and Deoraj Pakhrin are jointly in the fourth position with the score of 73.
Surya Prasad Sharma, Mani Rai, Deepak Neupane and amateur Samundra Giri are jointly in the sixth position at 74, while Suman Rai, Deepak Thapa Magar and CB Bhandari are tied for 10th with the score of five-over 75.
Sapkota, who took the turn at even-par 35 after hitting a birdie against a bogey, carded two bogies and a birdie in the one-over 36 on the back nine.
Shrestha played a forgettable round on the front nine that included a triple bogey on the par-3 fourth hole and a bogey against a lone birdie. On the back nine, Shrestha carded two bogeys and saved pars on the rest of the holes.
In the Amateur section, Samundra Giri of Gokarna Golf Club--who is tied for sixth position with three pros at four-over 74-opened up a two-stroke lead over Jiwan Rai. Another local amateur Sukra Rai is third at eight-over 78, while Rupendra Gurung is fourth at 79.
Altogether, 55 golfers -- 29 pros and 26 amateurs - are taking part in the 54-hole tournament organized by Nepal Professional Golfers Association under the sponsorship of Surya Nepal Pvt Ltd. The event offers a total cash purse of Rs 385,000. The top three winners will receive Rs 80,000, Rs 51,000 and Rs 40,000 respectively.
