KATHMANDU, May 16: The Supreme Court (SC) has dismissed the writ petition filed against Dr Bishwo Poudel.
The petitioners, advocates Pratibha Upreti and Bishal Thapa, had filed the writ arguing that Dr Poudel's appointment as the Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank was in violation of the Nepal Rastra Bank Act. However, the SC's administration has dismissed the petition, according to the SC's Spokesperson Nirajan Pandey.
Writ petition filed against Rabi Lamichhane
According to him, the writ was dismissed because it was not demonstrated that Dr Poudel had been recommended for the position of Governor by the Governor Recommendation Committee. The petition was based on news articles published in newspapers and it was filed on uncertain grounds without clearly explaining how collective rights had been violated.
Reports had been published about an agreement between the major ruling parties, Nepali Congress and CPN-UML, to appoint Dr Poudel as the Governor. Amidst this discussion, Dr Poudel, who was also a member of the Governor Selection Committee, resigned from his position.
