SJMM cadres planning 'serial blasts' in capital nabbed

KATHMANDU, Aug 2: The Metropolitan Police Crime Division (MPCD), Hanumandhoka, on Friday claimed it has thwarted a bid to carry out serial blasts and launch an extortion drive in the Kathmandu Valley following the arrest of five Samuykta Jatiya Mukti Morcha (SJMM) cadres, who were planning the crimes.



The MPCD arrested Birendra Tamang, Sanab Pariyar, Nima Sherpa, Santosh Majhi and one other who go by the name of Bhaninath from different places in the capital over a period of time acting on a special tip-off following a month-long investigation, informed SSP Bijay Lal Kayastha, chief at the MPCD.[break]

According to the MPCD, they were planning to carry out serial blasts at different places in the capital and launch a forced donation drive targeting businessmen and industrialists ahead of the fresh Constituent Assembly elections slated for November 19. MPCD said it has also recovered explosives and seized materials used in making bombs, donation receipts and letter pads from them.
