Mahato had begun his fast-unto-death on Tuesday at Shanti Batika in the capital after talks with the Interim Election Council failed to yield results.
A police squad reached the spot where Mahato had been staging his fast-unto-death and rushed him to the Bir Hospital in an ambulance. [break]
Speaking to media persons from his hospital bed, Mahato said the government used force to bring him to the hospital. “Instead of addressing our demands, the government used force and has attempted to thwart our mission.” He also said that his party would not withdraw protests until their demands are met.
Mahato also accused the four parties of hatching a conspiracy against fresh CA election scheduled for mid-December. The party has floated a 10-point demand, including announcement of the election date and fresh delineation of electoral constituencies before the Constituent Assembly (CA) polls. They have also demanded that the groups currently in talks with the government be allowed to participate in the polls.
According to doctors at the hospital, Mahato, who is also the patient of diabetes and high blood pressure, has a high proportion of anticodon in his urine. Doctors said that his condition is improving and is currently out of risk.
Meanwhile, a meeting of the High Level Political Committee (HLPC) on Friday urged Mahato to withdraw his fast-unto-death and help the government build consensus on poll date.
Earlier on Thursday, two cabinet ministers -- Minister for Information and Communications Madhav Paudel and Minister for Local Development Bidhyadhar Mallik-- had met Mahato and urged him to end his strike. But Mahato had refused to end his strike.
