KATHMANDU, June 6: A market inspection team dispatched by the Department of Commerce (DoC) on Wednesday inspected The Malla Hotel and found unhygienic conditions in the hotel´s kitchen.

“We found that the hotel was not maintaining proper hygiene in its kitchen. Food was placed haphazardly and kitchen staff were not wearing proper uniform,” Mohan Chandra Joshi, market investigation officer at DoC, said. [break]“The hotel was found storing meat openly in its store. The room was so stinky that we couldn´t even enter the store.”

Joshi said that they have directed the hotel to maintain proper hygiene and submit the proof at the department at the earliest. Besides, the team instructed the hotel management to furnish clarification at the department within a week.

About a fortnight ago, a team of Department of Food Technology and Quality Control (DFTQC) had found unlabeled spices in the kitchens of The Everest Hotel and Dwarika´s Hotel. The team had directed the management of both the hotels to furnish explanation at the department after correcting their mistakes.
