KATHMANDU, May 16: World Bank Vice President for South Asia, Martin Raiser, paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli at the prime minister’s residence in Baluwatar on Friday.
During the meeting, the two discussed ongoing cooperation in Nepal’s economic and social development, as well as the significance of the ongoing Sagarmatha Sambaad in Kathmandu.

PM Oli appreciated the World Bank’s substantial support in boosting Nepal’s economic growth, poverty alleviation, and improving citizens’ living standards. He emphasized the government's priority on efficient revenue mobilization and effective management of development spending.
The prime minister further informed that upcoming budgets would be managed to ensure timely completion of ongoing projects aimed at enhancing production and productivity.
Meanwhile, VP Raiser reaffirmed the World Bank’s continued cooperation with Nepal and commended the country's initiative to host the Sagarmatha Sambaad with a focus on environmental issues, wishing it success.
The World Bank currently has an investment of USD 2 billion across 19 sectors in Nepal, including transport, energy, education, and health. Present at the meeting were PM’s Chief Advisor Bishnu Prasad Rimal, Economic Development Advisor Dr Yuba Raj Khatiwada, and World Bank Country Director for Nepal David Sislen, among others.
