Organizing a press conference to inform about the decisions taken by the party´s central committee meeting that concluded on Tuesday, CPN-Maoist Chairman Mohan Baidya said they have decided to mobilize the entire party and its sister organizations to actively boycott the poll.
“We will mobilize our party cadres to disrupt the poll,” he said, adding, “We will make public the party´s program of protests after the politburo meeting.” [break]
“Our 33-party alliance will jointly boycott the election,” he maintained.
Baidya said that they were committed to a ´people´s constitution´ and added, “The sacrifice we made in the people´s war would become meaningless unless we pressed ahead for a people´s constitution.”
He said that they will not let the government hold the poll through the might of the security forces. “The November poll is not in the interest of the Nepali people,” he claimed, adding, “Polls held under the status quo will not have any meaning.”
“We believe the Regmi-led four party syndicate government is undemocratic and it should be dissolved,” said Baidya.
He said an all-party round table conference and a national consensus government were the two demands still to be met. “We were in favor of a government of political parties, but the leaders of the other parties ignored our concerns,” he further added.
Baidya accused the Nepali Congress, the UML, the government, the president and the other parties of not being serious about their concerns.
Baidya clarified that they were open to dialogue and talks with the government in order to reach a consensus. “We don´t find a conducive environment for the poll and so we decided not to register our party,” he said
He ruled out unification between his party and the UCPN(Maoist).
He stressed that the CA was not the sole entity for drafting the constitution, and alternatives should be sought. “We have not rejected the CA but it will be meaningless if it cannot draft the constitution,” he said.
Members of the party voiced their support for the political document presented by Chairman Baidya.
