The Maoist top brass discussed the issue during the Standing Committee meeting Sunday morning and decided to raise the issue during the three-party meeting scheduled for 2 pm.[break]
But the meeting among the UCPN (Maoist), Nepali Congress (NC) and the CPN-UML was postponed to 2 pm Monday due to the death of UML lawmaker Dambar Khadka, who was killed in a motorbike accident Saturday night.
“We seriously object to the government plan not to immediately call the parliamentary session as per the agreement reached earlier,” said leader Barsman Pun. He said that the government has betrayed his party by not summoning the House session.
The parliament is supposed to give first priority to the prime ministerial election after the session begins.
The Maoist party has alleged that Prime Minister Madhav Kumar is prolonging the term of caretaker government by not calling the House.
On Saturday, the ruling parties including the NC had suggested to the prime minister not to call the House without reaching an inter-party agreement on the prime ministerial election.
Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal had also met with the prime minister Saturday evening and demanded that the House session be summoned. “The chairman discussed House session with the prime minister, but he is not likely to summon House,” said Maoist spokesperson Dinanath Sharma.
The Maoists had decided to withdraw their demand for special session after the ruling NC and the UML agreed in writing to “immediately call” the regular winter session.
Meanwhile, the Maoist party will hold its standing committee meeting on Monaday and Tuesday as well to discuss the reshuffling of responsibilities among its leaders.
