KATHMANDU, June 24: Rabi Lamichhane has been re-elected unopposed as president of the ruling Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) during the party’s first general convention in Chitwan.
The party’s Central Election Commission declared Lamichhane elected after no other candidate filed a nomination for the top post.

Lamichhane had registered his candidacy on Tuesday with the proposal of senior party leader Balendra Shah. With no challenger entering the race, he secured a second consecutive term as party chief.
Following the announcement, Shah took to social media to congratulate Lamichhane and wish the party success in its future journey. Shortly after midnight, he shared a sketch featuring himself and Lamichhane and expressed his best wishes.
Writing in Romanized Nepali, Shah said: “Best wishes to our party. May everyone succeed. Make the country succeed.”
Party leaders said Lamichhane’s re-election has injected fresh energy into the party. Following the convention, the RSP is expected to focus on its political strategy and play a more active role in governance.
